Dark Horse Notes #23
Building Momentum Through Focus
Personal Note from Lisa
Hi friends,
We've had some beautiful weather here in Ocala lately, and I've been making a point to spend a little more time outside whenever I can. There's something about being outdoors that creates space to think, reflect, and reconnect with what matters most.
One idea that's been on my mind this week is focus.
|
I was listening to Brendon Burchard during one of his recent monthly live sessions, and he was talking about the importance of block time—intentionally setting aside dedicated periods of focused work to make meaningful progress on what matters most. It was a timely reminder. Life has a way of filling every available space if we let it, which makes it even more important to protect time for the projects, goals, and priorities that move our vision forward. |
Creating space to think, reflect, and reconnect with what matters most. |
I know I've mentioned focus before and I continue to believe it's one of the most important habits we can develop. Even 60 to 90 minutes of focused work each day can create remarkable momentum over time.
As you move through your week, ask yourself:
Am I creating enough space for focused work?
Sometimes a small adjustment in how we spend our time can create a big shift in where we're headed.
Cheering you on,
Lisa

One of our major priorities right now is building systems that help people make meaningful progress toward their goals and visions.
Behind the scenes, we're continuing to refine and organize the Dark Horse operating system—the collection of tools, frameworks, content, and processes that support everything we're building across The Dark Horse Project.
We're also developing a new series of empowering content focused on brain health, cognitive performance, and the habits that help us think clearly, stay focused, and perform at our best. As we continue researching and organizing these resources, we're excited about the potential impact they can have on both personal and professional growth.
At the same time, work continues on improvements to the Dark Horse Network and the systems that support collaboration, education, and community engagement.
While much of this work happens behind the scenes, each step helps strengthen the foundation for what comes next.
Empowering Thought
The Cost of Constant Switching
One of the greatest challenges of modern life is that distraction has become normal. We move through our days answering messages, checking notifications, attending meetings, and juggling multiple priorities. While all of these activities may be necessary, they can also create a hidden cost.
Every time we switch tasks, our momentum pays a price.
Our brains require time to reorient, refocus, and reconnect with the work at hand. The more often we switch, the more energy is spent recovering our attention rather than moving meaningful work forward.
This becomes especially important when we're pursuing a larger vision. Visionary work rarely happens in short bursts of fragmented attention. Building a business, developing a new idea, solving a complex problem, or creating something meaningful often requires sustained focus. It requires staying with a challenge long enough to move beyond the obvious answers and into deeper thinking.
Unfortunately, many people mistake activity for progress. A full calendar and a busy day can feel productive, yet we often finish the day wondering why the most important work remains untouched. The issue isn't effort. It's fragmentation.
Momentum is one of the most valuable resources we possess. It takes time to build, but only moments to lose. That's why protecting focused work time isn't a luxury—it's a necessity. Whether it's an hour in the morning, ninety minutes in the afternoon, or a dedicated block on your calendar, uninterrupted focus creates the conditions for meaningful progress.
One of the simplest ways to move a vision forward is to stay with a task a little longer than feels comfortable. Resist the urge to check one more notification, open one more tab, or jump to the next thing before the current work is complete.
Often the breakthrough is waiting just beyond the urge to switch.
Momentum is created when focused action is repeated consistently over time. The more often we protect our attention, the easier it becomes to build meaningful progress and move our vision forward.
Protect your focus.
Build momentum.
Keep moving forward.

Consider your last seven days.
How much time was spent reacting to what showed up?
How much time was spent intentionally building your vision?
What's one block of focused, uninterrupted time you could protect this week to move your most important project forward?
